Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Oral Medicine provides specialty education in clinical practice grounded in the essential foundations of knowledge and teaching. The primary objective of the program is to address the need for clinical care, academic research, and teaching in the field of Oral Medicine.

The program is comprised of seminars and case presentations, participation in literature reviews and teaching rounds. Training covers the diagnosis and management of oral mucosal diseases, temporal mandibular joint disorders (TMD) and orofacial pain, sleep and other neurosensory disorders, oral manifestations of systemic disease, non-surgical salivary gland disorders, and oral/dental management of complex, medically compromised patients.

Successful completion of the program leads to eligibility for the National Dental Specialty Examination and the Royal College of Dentists of Canada Fellowship Examination. To qualify for licensure as an Oral Medicine specialist in in Quebec, residents must successfully complete both of the following:

  • a Graduate Diploma in Oral Medicine, and
  • a Master's in Dental Sciences (Thesis) with a research project directly related to the field of Oral Medicine.
