TEAM Student Guidelines

Thank you for being a part of the Tomlinson Engagement Award for Mentoring (TEAM) program, an initiative led by the Office of Science Education. You were selected for this peer mentoring award by your instructor for your excellent results while taking their course. To help you make the most of your TEAM experience, we have provided some guidelines below.

At the beginning of the semester:

If your instructor has not already contacted you, please make sure you communicate with them to ensure that your roles and responsibilities are clearly understood. As a reminder, TEAM students are peer mentors, not replacements for TAs. Here are some examples of tasks you might perform:

  • Attend lectures and supporting in-class activities that involve interaction with a course’s students.
  • Respond to student emails regarding course content and posting questions and answers on discussion boards.
  • Attend the Peer Collab to support students with homework and exam preparation.

Your instructor should introduce you to the class either in person or on a slide summary and include your contact information. If they have not done so, please remind them.

During the semester:

Please keep track of the hours you are spending as a TEAM student. The time should total 25-30 hours.

If at any time you have questions or concerns, please contact your instructor, or feel free to get in touch with us directly (Tomlinson Project - see contact information below). Any concerns will be handled promptly and in complete confidentiality. Your success as a student should always come first!

At mid-semester:

Once we receive confirmation from your instructor, the payment of your award will be processed.

To prevent payment delays please ensure the following:

  • that you have an updated civic address in Minerva
  • that you have set up Direct Deposit in your banking information in your Minerva account,
  • that you let us know if you are a part-time student.

Please note that your TEAM award will appear on your Student Experience Record (SER), formerly (CCR) the Co-Curricular Record.

Enjoy the TEAM experience!
